Rear Window Sunshades

My SA just sent me this pic of the sunshades...weird...I had them removed from my order. He also confirmed that the multi-contour seats will not be available until August production...meaning September delivery at the earliest...also removed...I'm so sick of waiting on this!

Interesting, they seem to unfurl horizontally and clip to the rear of the window frame. Note that the picture is not of the ML, unless there is a new version of the Pano roof that includes the cargo area. I suspect this is a shot of the GL interior.

+1 on the GL interior. Note the climate vents... wouldn't make sense to have them in the cargo area

So you guys are definitely correct about this being a photo of the '13 GL, but the shades are going to be the same on the 13' ML.

Looks like it's mounted to the front of the window frame rather than in the door panel. I wonder if this move was mostly for cost (no need to have two door unique door panels with and without the shade) or for practicality (works better this way). Either way, glad they're finally offering it on the SUVs, something BMW X5s have had since 2000.

My guess is it goes sideways because its a split window. So requires 2 shades vertically.

Take a look at most other cars with manually operated shades and the fact that it's split window makes zero difference.

The more I see the GL the more I like it. If the ML is like Christina Hendricks, then the GL is Christina Hendricks with everything I love a bit bigger.

MOST? In your world maybe no difference. That as ugly maybe more so. But I only offered a suggestion but after your photo that's exactly why MB chose sideways the other is ugly and the hooks look aftermarket. Just sayin! :-)

I guess I misinterpreted your post? Your original post was suggesting the reason that it's horizontal was due to a split window. I was simply showing how most shades have been implemented in the past and it's a mono-piece vertical, regardless of being split window or not.

The reason I said most is because the only exception I can think to it for a manual shade is the E38 BMW 7 where there's one piece that goes up and another piece that goes back: http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/at...2-17091259.jpg

I never mentioned aesthetics or hinting if one is more attractive than the other. In fact I think they look pretty cool. With the horizontal one, there's also going to be hooks.... My opinion is that this GL implementation looks more aftermarket because it's not integrated into the interior. The older ones are in the door panel so it clearly looks like a factory shade.

There is an online manual (in English) for the ML on the MB German website. It includes the MY13 upgrades, including rear sun blind (sunshade). Link for the online manual below. The Sun blind (according to the owner's manual) extends horizontally from the B-Pillar but DOES NOT cover the rear quarter light. As to the multi contour seats, they are available for August production - mine was originally for July and had to accept an August slot (European version, RHD)

Manual is black and white. Graphics appear to be of the new TFT screen
