However, it turns out I don't have much chance to use all this technology and corning performance in SoCal, beside on-off ramps. So, I'm wondering if I should go with 19s to at least get a better ride. But I question, with AIRMATIC, would I really notice any difference between 19s and 20s?

I, too, prefer comfort over style. However, I figured I should go with the 20s since I ordered the ACTIVE CURVE system and could benefit from the lower sidewall in terms of corning performance.

But seriously I think that sounds strange. Now at the moment I have 18" winter tires and Airmatic always on comfort setting. And it's comfortable, but I would not call it very soft or fluffy. It's pretty firm I would say.
We have like a million speed bumps in the city where I live and driving over them on the sport setting feels ridiculous since it's shaking like you wouls fall out through the window.

I have airmatic and 20" wheels and ON & OFF Road package. I generally drive in sport mode unless there's alot of speed humps or it's a rough road then I switch to auto (comfort). It's interesting if you leave the car in auto and then shut it down you really notice the difference in height when you get out. I'm only 170cm, and I do have the running boards as well, but because I drive in sport mode I'm usually able to step into & out of the car without using the boards. On delivery I also found the ride was way too harsh, in both sport & auto, the factory or dealer had the tyres up around 43-44psi. I ended up taking around 10psi out of each tyre and that made a huge difference. Generally it's just me in the car and I rarely tow so I'm running my tyres around 32-33psi now which I find perfect. That's what pressure the tyre placard recommends too.
It's certainly true that most BMWs are better handling cars but things seem to be changing in Munich over the last few years. For some reason they've lost their proper BMW feel, and the steering is now too light and feels very artificial. Spent a fair bit of time in the new 5-series (550i), compared to the E-class it's a boat, same goes with new 3-series compared to the C-class and the current X5 compared to both the W164 & W166 ML. However I am excited to see what BMW is going to do with the new X5 that's due out soon.
The cars themselves are very good, and all in all I believe are 90-95% as good as a Benz, and would certainly be my next choice of vehicle if for some reason MB stopped producing vehicles, but I can't see that happening anytime soon.
Where BMW lets us all down is in 2 major areas:
1. Their service is awful. They'll be your best budds during the sale process but once that's completed and the car is delivered they tend to just dump you, until they feel it's time you need to upgrade, and then you get bombarded with phone calls and brochures in the mail. The sales staff and the service advisors just seem to have a certain attitude, it's as if they think they have the best cars on the planet and can treat customers however they like because they think we'll keep buying their product no matter what because they're the best. We've been to a few different dealers and it all seems to be the same. I know there's plenty of horror stories kicking around about unhappy MB customers, but our dealers over here are generally really good and make BMW look extremely unprofessional and incompetent. It's been 8 months since we sold our E90 3-series but we still get phone calls to remind us we're due for service, or a part has arrived for our car, even though we've informed them the car is sold and given them the new owners details 3 times!
2. They really need to make their interiors more exciting. Every new model is basically the same and is just drab and boring inside, no wow factor IMO. Same dash lines, relocated buttons but all in all not a lot different from previous models. This isn't quite the case with the new 3-series though, except for that ugly screen that sits on top of the dash they've done a reasonable job of that car. However it appears Benz is heading that way too with the new A-class now. I hope it's not going to spread across the range.
I might be a little biased here, but to me a Benz just has that slight edge over a BMW when it comes to comfort, driving dynamics, safety, style and finish. I'm sure it's also got alot to do with the fact that I grew up around MB's since I was a toddler, and I'm a bit of a 'stick-with-what-you-know' type of guy. For my fellow Aussie members I guess it's pretty much the same as the Ford 'vs' Holden thing, depends which one you grew up with. I imagine it's similar in the US with Ford & Chev. It's Ford for me!
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth ...
Happy Easter everybody & be safe on the roads ....

I have just bought my dream Mercedes this year. Diamond White 350 ML MG Sports Bluetec 2014 model.
It is very quiet inside the cabin. Very little road noise. Had paint protection with Star Guard ( I am sure it will protect it from rain water as it will be parked in my drive).
Love the Hermon Kardon stereo Dolby sound system, Comand and the Reversing Camera. The Nappa leather seats are very comfortable. The upgrade to Lights and sports drive, wood trim, Ambient lights and tyre pressure monitoring are all appreciated
Thank you people at Tuscaloosa Alabama and Stuttgart Germany where it was made and designed.
I don't understand why the MB factory in Vance, Tuscaloosa, Al is surrounded on either side by a Cemetery, On one side Hopewell and and on the other side evergreen. I have seen the MB site on street View on google Map. Thank you google.
