Very short trips bad for Bluetec? Would block heater make sense?

From day one my Florida driven 2014 ML350BT has slightly over reved when thre tranny is cold when shifting up for the lowest gears. After a few minutes all is normal. I have heard other in this forum say the same thing. I asked the dealer and they told me it was normal.
