Sport/AMG Steering Wheel Cover Retrofit

Recently retrofitted the sport Aluminium cover from Amg or sport steering wheel. Figured will post here so you guys know its possible! Everything is a direct swap, install takes about 20 minutes, you dont need to take out the steering wheel off, just disconnect the battery and remove the airbag.

Later I will be retrofitting AMG Metal Paddle shifters, just need to take the steering wheel off and trim the hole a bit, the plug for the shifter paddles is the same on all W166 steering wheels

Looks good. I would like to get a 3 spoke wheel going sometime. I find the 4 spoke one very uncomfortable for some reason -- my hand wants to rest where the spoke is.

I also see you have a nice metal foot rest. Where did that one come from? How hard was it to install?

install was very easy for the foot rest, four bolts.(i mounted mine to the floormat. Matches the OEM Sport pedals perfectly.

there are 2 holes on the back of the steering wheel-very close to paddle shifters(not even holes looks more like rips-can barely notice them) basically you stick a screwdriver in there and release the spring, which pops the airbag out. If you search ebay for W166 airbag you will see two springs on the back of airbag.

I got mine here including new Airbag, since the old will not fit.

Check the sellers other auctions. He sells all different kind of steering wheels for the W166 ML (Alcantara/stitching etc...)

Thanks,

I found one for my Almond/beige interior with wood trim on ebay. A mere $1600.... But I figure I could get a couple hindred for my old on to lessen the pain!

Guys, what's the difference between 3 spoke AMG wheel and a standard 3 spoke wheel? Or there is no such thing?

The AMG wheel is a little thicker, has a flat top and bottom and usually has silver metal shift pedals.

Thanks.

Looks like there is no such thing as a heated AMG steering wheel sadly. So in order to keep the heated option the only way to go is a standard 3 spoke. However it seems that there is plastic around the buttons on that 3 spoke as opposed to chrome on the current stock wheel and all the AMG wheels. Lame.
