ML 350
Who designed this? .. How disable voice guidance?

Well, we're MOSTLY loving our new ML350, but whoever designed this entertainment/nav system needs to go back to designing mechanical elements. Kludgey and non-intuitive at best. Presets aren't independent of being on the audio source? Ugh. Plus a long list of other annoyances. Hire someone from Apple, MB. You can afford it!

For example, how the heck do you disable the route guidance voice? It's hugely annoying to be jamming to a great song only for it to be interrupted for every minor bit of guidance. There seems to be no specific option to enable it. If you turn the voice down with the volume control, it stills fades the audio source.

Is the trick to first disable Audio Fadeout and then turn the voice all the way down with the volume control? (Wife's not home so I can't try it.)

Look, if it was necessary, MB would provide it. If it's not there, you don't need it.
Simple enough?
Mercedes thinks so. ;-)

There is a way to disable the voice, the dealer person showed us at purchase .... dang if I can remember it though.

You press the mute button as soon as the NAV voice begins to provide instructions. The screen will show that the instructions have been muted.

You are correct, this is how you disable it. The only problem is this is on a per trip basis, meaning you can't default to it. I wish there were a way to just disable it full time.

Also, the traffic notifications can be disabled permanently so at least I got rid of that one annoyance.

Lower down the volume while giving directions. It will stay this way until you change it.

This is just another one of the negative niggles with this car. On the Audi Q7 you can disable it, and it stays off unti you enable it again. That's the way that it should be. MB muffed another feature.

You are absolutely correct. However, when there are two major issues and a whole handful of little niggles, it's time to make a change. I've been very disappointed in this ML; and I've been in an MB continuously since 1972. Unless MBUSA brings in a diesel G-Class, this is probably my last.

Ymmv.

I don't wanna create any argument here but I have a friend that just had his Q5 with 80k clicks on the dealer to rebuild his entire engine. It was burning 1 liter of oil for each 300 kilometers. They tried to bill him for the fix, but he knew the dealer owner and voila.....
Again, without create any argument, this is a MB FORUM and we all here like very much our cars. I don't think that keeping bad mouthing MB's here it is very nice thing to do.
Just my 2 cents....

So, are you saying that, as an owner of a 2014 MB ML350BTC, I should not share my experience - both good and bad - with the car on an MB Forum? I guess we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I think if you'll look around the MB Forums (plural), you'll see that I post a lot of positive and helpful stuff. Should I stop those, too?

There's a difference between pointing out the negatives, and being the kid in class who is always saying "at my old school we did X Y Z".

People here obviously made the choice to go ML, on their own accord, as did you. It unfortunate that your ML has not impressed you, but the constant comparisons to the Q7 get old. Especially for those of us who don't agree, and aren't exactly impressed with the Audi products...

I don't remember saying you should not share your experiences, but I remember trying to keep the conversation on an elevated level. Nonetheless, I deeply apologize for expressing MY opinion and I also wish you many years of satisfaction with your Q7. I hope you enrich the Audi forum(s) the same way you have being doing here.

W166 on factory order :)

Isn't this a sook?

Whilst you post great stuff and I thoroughly enjoyed your trip pics and experience, your bias towards the Q7 is apparent.

Sure it is a good car but I personally found it's diesel to be very loud compared to the ML. I also test drove the Cayenne and found the same.

When I posted this, you rebuked it in your own way.

Excessive oil consumption and engine rebuild on the Audi's is a known issue, just google it up, This does not mean all Audi's are bad nor does it mean the ML is the best for everything.

We know you have ordered a new Q7, hope you enjoy it thoroughly.

I have not even received my ML yet (Factory order) but reading your negative comments, not sure if I want to now Only kidding, these are just minute issues.

Being a 3rd gen ML, I'm hoping for some years of trouble free motoring.

Maybe we have set our expectations high of Mercedes Benz? After all they themselves advertise 'Nothing but the best"

Please keep on posting as your positive comments are certainly helpful and some of the negative ones too.

Cheers
