ML400 4MATIC and BlueTec Come to the 2015 ML Lineup

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class lineup will see two new engines. This move was made in order to reduce engine displacement and increase fuel economy. Both engines will be twin-turbocharged.

2012 ML 350 BlueTec, 2013 GLK 250, 2014 E 250
For me the ML 250 is a non-starter.

I own a 2012 ML 350 Diesel, a 2013 GLK 250 Diesel, and a 2014 E 250 Diesel.

The 6 cylinder diesel in the ML works great. The GLK 250 4 cylinder diesel is my wife's primary driver, and it is adequate in terms of power and refinement. The E 250 4 cylinder diesel (same engine as GLK) is also fine in in this sedan.

But there is no way that I would purchase a SUV the size and weight of the ML and settle for the 2.1 L 4 cylinder diesel. While it would push the car around, it would be much too big a compromise in this vehicle. I was considering replacing the ML with a new one, but not now. I now will look to Audi, Porsche, or BMW. Too bad.

Small Diesel?

I own a 2013 ML350 Bluetec that replaced an 2007 ML63. My wife was to inherit the SUV and stipulated better mpg. The diesel fit the bill, as we infrequently tow Uhauls and the like substantial distances. The torque of the diesel makes this quite doable. MPG in the 28-32 range is big asset also (non-towing and wife driving).

I would not give this all up for a few more mpgs with the 4 cylinder.

Hope someone in MB gets fired for this

Just my luck. The year I decide to buy a diesel, MB drops the ball with this ML350 downgrade. GL is too big, GLK -- too small. What were they thinking?

It can't be an improvement. The best you can expect to hear is "...its not as bad as I thought it would be."

But to those waiting to order one see this European review To skip the interminable musical opening skip to 1 min 40 seconds.

Yeah, in this class (both size and price-wise) fuel economy should not be THE driving factor. And it's a pretty arrogant move for MB to just shove this new and only BT option down consumer's throats.
