Out of Warranty
Gents,
I'm wondering how many of you intend to keep your w222 after the warranty ends? If you do, will you bee seeking a third party extended warranty?
I've been looking around for something to replace my 220. I don't care for the 221 interior design, so I'll be skipping that whole series.
The 222 appearance is more my speed and I think it drives well. That said, I don't intend to purchase a new one as my needs don't require it and the depreciation would make me ill.
With that in mind, I'd look for a three year old CPO s550 4matic. My concern, however, that with the technology level in these cars (50 thousand cameras, sensors, etc) that the car will either be unfixable or so costly to repair out of warranty that it would just be foolish to own.
I know that this always comes up every time there is a new series, but while the 221 added to the goodies available on the 220, i think the 222 is a new level in technology. This concerns me. With SDS, a decent set of tools, and some know how, dealing with the w220 is not terrible. I don't think I could say the same about a w222.
So, for those of you who have had these cars for while:
A. Do you intend to keep it out of warranty?
B. Are you concerned with reliability or repairability of technology?
C. Do you feel that you'll be ready for something new after a few years or do you consider this a keeper despite its short comings?
Thanks.

A: certainly will keep it.
B: to some extent yes.
C: shortcomings to be seen but I already locked my answer at point A.
Note that we only have warranty for two years from the factory. Not going to spend money for any paid extension from MB or a third party warranty. In the long term those will cost more than you gain (do the same for all cars in the family).

Keeping mine at least 7 years maybe more.
I did get the MB warranty for 7 years/100 K miles so as it gets closer to 7 years, I will gauge how reliable it has been.
I purchased the warranty from Erin at Santa Rosa ($3500) just because of my concern about the tech breaking versus the mechanical stuff.

I never keep cars past their warranty - I get bored and want new ones.
Always concerned of new technology having isues, but no more so with this car
I will get another large car in a few years, not because of this cars short comings, whatever few it has, are offset by numerous positive features/quality/design etc..

I'm not certain what I will do when that point approaches. I love this car, but I go crazy with new technology. So, if I were to guess at this time, I will probably get something new when the warranty expires since by that time, the new technology will get the better of me. In fact, the main reason I switched from the LS to the S550 is because of the incredible technology on the 2014 S550.

As of now I'm planning to get back into a diesel or electric plug in S class within the warranty period. Waiting for US spec ones to come ashore here.

I probably won't keep mine past the warranty unless I buy it when my lease is up. I always want new technology. I bought this one off the lot. I may order my next one since I know when my lease ends. I will be able to get the options I like (HUD) and drop the ones I don't (Magic Body Control) need.
