2010 S600 sold
2015 S600

I have seen several 2015 s600's popping up at local dealerships in southern California. All of them have a msrp around $174k-175k. I have two questions, 1. Has anybody tried to negotiate and what type of pricing are you being quoted? 2. Would you spend around $175k on a fully loaded S600 or a fully loaded s63?

I haven't tried negotiating as I haven't seen one yet in South Florida but I would definitely rather the S63 over the S600.

This is the answer most people give. I have always bought the S600 rather than the S63 models because I enjoyed the smoothness of the V12 engine.

In the past, there also used to be differences in the interiors in that the AMG was on the sporty side and the 600 was more on the luxurious side. Today, while the seat patterns, center console and steering wheels are slightly different, the level of luxury vs. sportiness is minimal.

If you lease the car, the residuals on the S63 used to be superior to the S600 so they had lower monthly payments, but I have not checked this with the W222.

It's all a matter of personal preference. Both are great cars, but the majority of people do appear to choose the 63 and not the 600. Like I said, I am a 600 person.

Also, if you choose the Semi-aniline interiors the seats and center console are very different in the S63 vs. the S600, but which is nicer, is also personal preference.

I definitely agree about the smoothness or the s600 and how the torque curve is just so steady, but the exhaust note from the tuned 63 is just amazing, not that the S600 doesn't sound great too. At least in south Florida, I've seen quite a few s63's and I haven't seen a new body s600 yet. Hmmmmmm

Yes, this is one of the reasons many prefer the S63. It is "throatier" than the S600

Cars are much cheaper there
I bought S500 2015 for 177,111 USD in Dubai and with that price you can get a fully loaded S600 or S63 in US!.

for your question I prefer the S600 it just feels more luxurious

On top of what has already been said, the AMG's just look better too. That mean body brings in a more youthful crowd.

This is a decision I am thinking through. My w221 S600 is approaching 7 years old and is close to the end of its extended warranty. When I bought it new, the s600 and S63 were almost the same in terms of performance. The w221 S63 emphasized a more sporting character and the S600 blended both comfort and high performance - it was perfect for me.

However the new S600 has hardly changed at all from a mechnical point of view. It is essentially the old M275 engine and driveline with a few minor tweaks in a new body, but with little change in performance. Yes, there is the S65 but that is still based on the same c. 15 year old engine. I was hoping that MB would introduce a new generation V12 but they appear to have given up on that and are now just milking what they can out of an aging design. If I am going to spend $175K I want it to be on something new and innovative, and I am finding it hard to justify that on a w222 S600. At least the S63 is new and is also an advance on the performance front.

I might just keep with my w221 S600 for the moment, and see what else develops over the next year or two.

I was in this same predicament and ultimately took delivery of a new 2015 S600 a few weeks ago. I do like the S63's sportier look and throaty exhaust note, but aside from those 2 things I prefer the S600. The V12 is just turbine smooth and has a higher power curve than the AMG V8. One of the other deciding factors for me was that the S63 cannot be ordered with MBC here in the US. The ride feels like you are floating on a cushion of air, even on our horrible So. CA roads.
It also feels a little more exclusive, not very many of them around. At least in my neighborhood I see many more S63's than S600's…not a big deal but nice nonetheless.
Either way you can't go wrong, both are stunning cars!

Thanks for the insight! Out of interest, is the new w222 S600 like the last one, all options included? The only option I think I had to worry about with my 2008 S600 were 19" wheels. The list pretty much ran out after that.

Pretty much. 19" Wheels are now standard and 20" are optional. Split View and the rear fridge are options. White Pearl (forget the exact name) exterior color and Sunburst wood trim are also an additional cost. All are pretty low cost options and just personal preference.

Did you order your s600? Or did you buy it off the lot? In any case, did you end up paying sticker or did the dealership take anything off? BTW, which dealership did you end up getting your S600 from? We would all appreciate some pics

I took a look at an S63 this afternoon while my S600 was being serviced. I was told that due to the fact these higher end cars are now generally custom ordered, the waiting time is currently around 4 months for an S63 and 6 months for an S600. Perhaps there will be some on lots in future but it seems not at the moment. (In CA at least)

This is certainly not surprising...I don't think I've ever seen a new S63 just sitting in my dealer's lot. I had to custom order mine back in March and just took delivery of it this past week.


I would think that the majority of buyers would want to customize their vehicles in a specific way also. I would be shocked if I found another build similar to mine in my city.

I placed my order through MB of San Diego and at the time of the order they didn't have pricing information yet. Paid sticker. Didn't know they were being discounted already.
Hoehn in Carlsbad did have a BLK/BLK S63 on the lot but that was over 1 month ago. I'm guessing that only happens when people order them but don't take possession for whatever reason.
Will take some better pictures tomorrow and post.

In the USA 90 percent of the cars are bought off the lot and only 10 percent are ordered.

In other countries, it is just the opposite. 90 percent are custom ordered and 10 percent are bought off the lot.

Those of us in the USA that order our cars are in the overwhelming minority.

From my standpoint, I'd never spend this kind of money on a vehicle without it being designed specifically to my liking.

I ordered my S600 end of July, as where I live no S600 was sitting in any near showroom. I also have a history of ordering everything 100% to my specs as on an expense like this I don't want to compromise. My S600 is about to go on the vessel (see my recent other post), so I probably can pick it up in about 4 weeks.
To your questions: The S63 was not an option for me as I had a 2007 S600 and I love the V12! I also have a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, so if I want to drive an amazing 8 cylinder, I take this one.
I tried to negotiate but on a custom order there wasn't much room for negotiation. But I got some 4.5% off, because I walked in, I told them what I want and what I'm willing to pay and that I'm ready to sign right now. This made the sales guy have a 5 min conversation with his boss and they countered and we closed the deal. Overall a short process. I'm not the most talented negotiator, I always try but only if I'm ready to seal the deal (fairness to the dealer).
"Now to those who say if you have to ask or negotiate the price you can't afford this car" - well, think what you want, but for me it is integral part of my lifestyle and I'm never satisfied paying sticker price. Period.

I totally agree with this. I would NEVER order a car off the lot unless it was exactly what I wanted. That's never been the case with the exception of my very first car....a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 way back in the day.

For me, I just bought a S600 instead of the because of the subdued beauty, ultra smoothness, quietness, and the lack of exterior accouterments. When I want an in your face, loud, look-at-me car, I take my Ferrari.
