I just got back from the dealership. After asking my service advisor, he got one of the sales people, who in turn got my sales lady, who also did not how it works.
Then the service manager got called, he didn't know but was willing to learn. Then he called one of his techs that said he operated it once, 8 months ago but needed to watch the automation instruction on the dash screen first to get familiarized.

We got the service manager to parallel park 2 service vehicles next to a curb leaving a parking space in between them. Sure enought the Active Parking Assist worked as advertised with the tech. Then it was my turn and it worked for me both getting into and out of the parking space. Mystery solved.
The consensus is, this is Florida, no one parallel parks down here.

Then my sales lady asked, why would anyone parallel park a $100K plus Mercedes on the street in NYC?
She has a point. At least I now know I can.

I've seen the arrow come on but I've never tried it. I need to give it a shot so I can teach my wife. Parking at my kid's school is all parallel and it's only a matter of time before that 20" AMG rim gets scuffed.

Auto backing into a parking space?

Can the parking assist back into a parking space for you? Parallel parking is easy for me, a basic skill that everyone should have learned in drivers ed.
