Why so many S550 Cabriolets for sale USED????
I'm fooling around on eBay today and notice this: there are no less than NINE, used, 2017 S550 Cabs listed for sale, all with very low miles. In comparison, there is not one 2017 SL listed. What's the story on the new cab? Anyone heard any big negatives? Just curious.

I know that is a concern, but don't you think most buyers would check that out before buying a $150K+ car? And, short of a new Rolls-Royce Dawn, is there any other drop top with a rear seat that offers more back seat leg room?

One would certainly hope so, perhaps they didn't check with both front seats as far back as they'd normally like. It may also be that once owners got people in the rear seat they couldn't get them out without a lot of fuss. I think many thought since it was an S class rear seat room wasn't going to be an issue in the first place. We never put people in the back seat of our S coupe especially those a bit older as they may never get out lol...I even have a bit of trouble getting out of mine when I clean the rear window.

Only two of the vehicles are used. One appears to be an early trade-in for a Bentley, the second one claims the owner was transferred to a job out of the country. The remaining ones all have less than 50 miles on them and are really brand new being sold by dealers. Some of them may have been originally ordered sight unseen and the purchaser did not take the vehicle (possibly did not have the funds, or did not like it once they saw it).

From what my dealer told me they are not selling as briskly as they once were. They actually have one in the showroom that's been there a while (white/beige/blk) with no takers and this dealer doesn't gouge anyone. I'm in S FL so winter is not an issue.

I had been waiting for the S550 Cabriolet to come out. I was very excited and planned on ordering one, but wanted to actually drive the car before I pulled the trigger. When they announced the exterior/interior color choices, that took a load of wind out of my sails. For a luxury convertible, a car that is supposed to be for FUN, what BORING colors! Then, I got the chance to drive the car and the experience just didn't cut it for me. The back seat leg room is ridiculous, to the point of being unusable for most anyone but kids. The car is expensive as MB's go. In the end, if you want to go topless, I feel that the SL is by far the better choice. I just plain don't like the S cab or the coupe and it would appear that the sales numbers show that most folks seem to feel the same way.

I was looking at a 560SEC on eBay and there seemed to be acres of legroom for the rear passengers, but not so anymore even though the cars are bigger. MB really should have focused on this issue, even if the rear seats won't get much use.

They SHOULD have built the Ocean Drive. If they had, one would be sitting in my garage right this minute.

If you want to have a convertible that's fun to drive, you can't beat the SL. The S-Cabriolet, with it's longer wheel base needed to offer a convertable with a luxurious ride for 4 passengers. As several people mentioned already, the rear seat leg room makes it un-usable. The car doesn't drive as nice or as nimble as the SL either. IMHO it's proportions aren't the best either. (It looks like a boat). Which is why they are not selling. I personally love the S-coupe. But both the S-Coupe and the S-Cabriolet are over priced. Lower their pricing and they'll move.

My wife commented it was most suitable for 65+ ladies in Southern Florida, asked me not to rent it again (we are in LA about 5-6 weeks per year).

Going by how many I've seen on the roads in the short time they've been out I'd say you're wrong. Again, does anyone here have actual sales numbers or is this more of the constant misinformation that is so often taken as gospel here?

I live in Newport Beach, CA where higher end MB's seem to outnumber Honda Accords. S Class sedans, SL's, GL's and G Wagens are everywhere you look. The S coupe has been out for quite a while and I rarely see one. I've actually seen more AMG GT's than S Coupes. I have seen a total of one S Cab on the road. Obviously, this is not a scientific study, just my gut feeling, but going back to the original question asked in the title of this thread, why are there so many, low mileage, USED S Cabs on the market?
What I found:
S Cabs = 42
Sl's = 7
I do find it quite odd, especially considering the sl450 and sl550 cost far less than the s cab.

So in other words no one knows anything lol. Same reason why there are so many of any new car on the market used at first. People are trying to flip them. Happens with any new car. What you see on the road doesn't mean anything. I see S Coupe and Cabrio models all the time in North Dallas/Frisco/Plano area, but again it proves nothing.
