Non CPO 2015 S63?

Hi All - I'm dangerously close to purchasing a 2015 S63 from a non-Mercedes dealer (Bentley dealer). The car has 15k miles on the clock, but not having the CPO concerns me given the potential repair costs.

Am I nuts for even considering this?

Thanks,
Scott

Unless you have "F#@k you" money, then yes, you are crazy to consider.

Chances are nothing will go wrong, but if anything does, it's not going to be cheap. Hell, it's not even going to be reasonable.

shouldn't the car still have factory warranty given its age and mileage?

There is zero risk buying the car. Cpo doesn't add much value to an in-warranty car IMO.

For a car that is so new, I am afraid the reason that is non-CPOed because of prior accident.

I know a S63 is very nice... Yet, if it were my money... I would pass, just for the peace of mind.

The reason it is non CPO, is because it's at a Bentley dealer, not an MB dealer.

Just WHAT do you do with an S63? Blast down freeway on ramps? How often can you EVER, legally, enjoy all that power? Are you going to take it to a track? Leave the S63 at the Bentley dealer and go buy a nice CPO S550 from an MB dealer. A stock S550 is so frigging fast, I just can't imagine why anyone would want an AMG car.

Different cars for different people. But you are correct, only a MB dealer can CPO a car. But CPO is only a checklist that is performed after which the car gets some warranty options. None of which matter if the car has factory warranty. Factory warranty is better than CPO warranty...

Am confused, shouldn't the car still have factory warranty given its age and mileage?
isn't factory warranty transferrable to a new owner when sold as long as it has not been claimed as a total loss or any substantial accident in its history?
someone please enlighten me

Others correcr me if I am wrong as I am new to this forum. I believe you can purchase an extended warranty on the car while it still has the original factory warranty. You can get a max 3 year unlimited miles added to original factory warranty. There are threads on deals you can get from mercedes benz dealerships on extended warranties. Can other more experienced members confirm what I am saying. I am new to mercedes benz but other car manufacturers have a similar policy where uou can get sn extended warranty prior to original warranty expiration

Sorry for typos typing on my phone. Make sure you get the car professionally inspected. Maybe even a body shop to check for prior body work

To clarify - the car does have the balance of the factory warranty, which will keep me covered for the next 2 years or to 50k miles, whichever happens first. The car has a clean CarFax, no body work, etc.

@Streamliner - I agree that the S63 is a bit of overkill, but I've been searching for the right S550 for the last few months, have not found one with the options that I want (have a very specific list). This S63 checks all the boxes.

I drive 13k miles a year. Must be silver exterior, black interior, have rear seat package, and 20 in multispoke AMG style rims. Yes, I am particular but I love my 2010 S550 and won't trade it for anything less than exactly what I want. Only trading as it has 85k miles and extended warranty is expired.

Well, I hear you about specific wants and needs, as I am that way to a fault. If you like the car, get it. That said, if it were me, I would not even consider an AMG car, as I just don't need or want the power, the roar, the ride, the seats or the image, all of which come at a price way over and above that of a plain, old S550.

Just taking a wild guess here, but what do we think the ratio of sales is of S550's to S63's? Like 50 to 1? If I were in your position, I would do a nationwide search for a CPO silver/black S550, find the right car and get it. If it doesn't have the wheels you want, that's an easy swap. The car would be much more akin to the 2010 you love and I believe you would be happier and have more money in your pocket at the end of the day--but that's just me.

Good luck and please let us know how it all ends up.

I tried to put a MB extended wty on a 2007 which was not purchased used from a MB dealer. It was still on wty. They wouldn't do it, has to be a dealer car. This was in Canada, your results may vary.

In the U.S., as long as an MB is still under factory warranty and has been properly maintained, an MB extended warranty can be purchased for the car.

If you can afford the upkeep on a S63 then I personally would not worry about what could or might break.

CPO on that car covers you 1 extra year over factory warranty with unlimited mileage during that year. CPO is not the same as the factory warranty in the 4th year. For example interior trim pieces etc aren't covered by CPO.
On an S63 CPO is nice because you know the car will have new brakes etc which are 3x the price of and S550. Of course if you are buying without CPOat a great price that can help entice you. Just make sure there's a clean carfax. Good luck! S63 is a great car.

You are correct as far as I know. Typically CPO just adds 1 year Unlimited Millage any way, as long as the car is still under B2B, the Extended Warrantee can be added at any time as long as it is still under B2B. I'm not sure if the price of the warrantee is higher if the millage is higher when you take it out.

If you are not going to get a cpo car then a trade in at a new car dealer is the next best thing just make sure to have it inspected and add the mb extended warranty. Good luck

2015 S63
Thank you to all that chimed in with advice - all of it factored into my decision to purchase the 2015 S63. Pictures attached.

My local MB dealership (where I will have it serviced) was kind enough to run and give me the VMI, learned that it has a clean history and the previous owner purchased the Premier 40k prepaid standard maintenance - this put me over the edge. I'll drive it with factory warranty for the next 2 years, then purchase the MB ELW at that point - was quoted 5k for 100k mileage coverage.

The car is amazing. It's all the things I loved about my S550 but with a good bit more attitude and power.

Thanks again for your help.

I don't where you get that CPO includes new brakes/rotors. If they are well in spec, they will not be replaced.
Brake pad are not pricey on either model. The money is in the two piece rotors...
