E39 M5 Wanted, LX470 instead.

Does anyone know where I can pick up an all black one with a lot of warranty left?

I'm going to lurk around m5board but I don't like their layout that much :o :p

Or if anyone has one to sell with a good warranty.

Working on it. I'm kind of scared. I need at least two more years of warranty.

Seeing how 2003 was the last year of the M5, that means most of the M5's factory warranty expires in a few months and the two years of CPO is taking over which is 'just right'

Tomorrow I'm going to shoot off emails to a bunch of dealers. Autotrader had a lot of stuff but to be honest; I feel a lot more comfortable buying from someone I've met through the forum. I can see their background and ask around what others think about them. eBay only has two M5's (one red, one silver) with CPO.

I loved my E39 2002 M5, third gear was amazing but it pales in comparison to my W211 E55. Even with the recirculating ball I liked the steering better than I do on the E.

Ricky Ill do a local search in Cali for your car. There is a decent dealer network that I do business with out here.

i have a friend with a completely blacked out black M5, with euro headlights, blacked out front grill, limo 5% all around, and stock 18's with pss9's. It has the aluminum trim. It's an 02 that is CPO. The mileage is under 40K. He's always been thinking about selling it (for a new M5), but is waiting for the manual version. he should be on m5boards as Indojeep or Indom5. let me know if you have any problems trying to contact him.

anerbe: do you have more details on the car? Perhaps you can give him my email address or direct him to this thread or this thread ( http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=76870 )

Vic: No way I can get a W211. Even the W210. Mercedes is not well in my dads eyes and I don't want to disappoint him by getting another Mercedes. Besides M5 is jut so hot.

Vic, I responded to your PM btw.

E39 M5 was one of my favourite cars.. I had 2 of them.. Carbon black/black and Lapis Blue/Black & blue interior.

They are great cars and lots of fun!! Only problem is that you are pretty much stuck at that horsepower level because they dont have anything crazy for them.. I know there are supercharger kits available, but I've heard of 2 people that bought chargers and blew their engines.

Not getting a s/c here
Maybe one or two small go-fast mods, but most likely it'll stay stock because I don't want to run into any issues.
Of course, Dinan offers full warranty on it's part -- but that's on paper. Who knows if they'll cough up when push comes to shove.

I was in the same position as you a few months ago. I live in Los Angeles and pretty much called every dealer from here to Arizona trying to find a nice low mileage 03 at a decent price. There were a few 03 M5's that I found with 1 year factory and 2 year extended warranty left. The one I bought had 10 months+2 year extended so I get a decent amount of coverage. Be diligent in your search and know that there are more M5's available then what is listed on the BMW site. Good luck.

Scott

Scott - how do you compare the CPO coverage versus regular warranty? The more and more I read and the more folks I talk to say that CPO will cover pretty much the engine blowing up -- and that's about it. That worries me a lot.

E39 M5 - Whatever is remaining on the four year warranty (which will be a few months) + 2 years of CPO. = 70k$ (car + tax + shipping) I assume
E60 M5 - Whatever is remaining on the four year warranty (which will be around four years). = 90k$ (car + tax + shipping) once again I assume.

Anyone have any suggestions now? I hate car shopping. Stupid sister.. why'd you turn 16.

Since I am still under full factory warranty I don't know how the CPO route is going to go. I have heard some bad stories and some good one. Most are good though. 70k is a bit much for a E39 M5. I got a mint 03 with 27k miles with extended leather for 51k. With Cali tax and license, mine was 56k out the door. Add 2k for shipping and you are done. As to the E60, unless you special order your M5 good luck finding one at 90k out the door. There was a 03 I was looking at which only had 17k miles and the dealer would have let it go for about 54k. I called every dealer within a 200 mile radius, and narrowed my seach from there. The whole process took 2 weeks...not fun but well worth getting the car you really want.

58k vs. 95k(I've seen them at 100k+)...its a big difference

Scott

Okay I think this is how I see it. Car prices only.

2003 E39 M5 for 45k$ get it. Otherwise keep looking.
2006 E60 M5 for 75k$ get it. Otherwise keep looking.
Tax should be 8.25% on both cars. Since it'll be used for work too...
Shipping is 2k$
Title + reg should be 1k$ max.

So is the extra 30k$ worth the three year newer car which means a better covered warranty for a longer period of time?

I want to bang my head against a desk.
BTW: Thanks guys for listening to my crap.

Texas sales tax on autos is 6.25% i believe (could be 6.75, definetly not 8.25). You should be able to get cross country enclosed shipping for 1200-1500. Last car I had shipped from Chicago to Houston, enclosed, was 875.

Hope this helps.

Archi - it does a lot. I was wrong on the tax, I thought it was normal sales tax. Either way though I don't think I'll have to pay it because it's for business use... (I think that applies to 6000lb cars and heavier though).

Chicago is actually where an M5 E60 exists that I'm interested in (it's 17k miles @ 80k$, all options).

Ricky, if you are heading the Dinan root with mods, let me know. My comapny does work for Dinan, so i can get you discounts

Here in cali you can write it as a business expense, with tax id etc so you wont get taxed. We have done that with a lot of our cars.

Personally, I think the 30k can be better spent elsewhere. With the 30k you save I would put that money toward a weekend/toy car. Right now, the Elise is catching my eye, you can pick up a used one for about 32-36k right now. E39 M5 and Elise vs. E60 M5. I'll pick the first option.
