Talking Nice work on the engine of this C6

Hard for some people to understand the description of the car, other than 630rwhp at 7psi, SC and NOS... and 9 sec 144mph 1/4 time, before the NOS. Also the junk doors, etc... but the work on the engine is sweet.

I think some guy in the ML63 beat this Vette in a the ML forum thread somewhere...

Looking at the guy's street tires, if the ML hooked up (and I think I saw that video) it's entirely possible. However....that Vette looks like a beast and with M/T's, it's no contest.

I don't know if any car has ever beat this car, just being flippant!

Of course you were. It's a Vette so it has to be the fastest car in the world and it couldn't be beaten by anything.

Do you even know the benefits of an auto? For a quarter mile car, buying manual is just stupid.

Don't you know the benefits of a man...
I cannot wait for the day for semi-autos like SMG to be commonplace and not a 170,000$ option.

Pee standing up?

I swear to god, the whole world is led to thinking a manual is faster.

A well-crafted automatic can accelerate faster than a manual; the 997 Turbo would be a prime example of this. The manual is more of a driver's preference. My ATV is a 6-Speed, and I would never purchase an automatic one on the grounds that the shifts are extremely quick and that I have complete control of the powerband. However, when riding, I don't neccessarily deal with the perils of traffic. Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with an automatic car. Takes away from driving experience? Remember, it's the man behind the wheel that makes the ride enjoyable.

Still, I cannot wait to test out a F1-style paddle shift transmission.

Be nice to Newton. As I said before, it's all preference. In drag racing, there are alot of automatics out there, especially in pro-built cars. You might recall a while back I posted a link to a 1500+ RWHP Supra with a 4SP slushbox. I think driving that car will take more balls than any manual from the factory.

Gotta love ignorance.

I mean, a manual has an awesome third pedal. That must mean its FAST. Have you ever been down to a quarter mile track? Have you ever seen built track cars? Tell me the type of transmissions they sport.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "real men drive manuals" and I see the benefit of driving an auto down a drag strip but if I were driving a road course, it wouldn't be in an automatic.

As far as daily driving, it is driver preference. I would prefer a manual or a BMW with SMG but I live in in this crappy city where it makes no sense. I have never found pleasure in driving an auto

Dead on. If a car lives its life down the 1320, an auto is only logical. If you were carving corners, you would want to go manual. For everything else, its personal preference.

I wasn't bashing manual cars, I love them, and they're much more fun to drive. I'm just tired of all the kids that run around thinking manual is completely faster than a slushy auto in a straight line. Sure, given the scenario of identical cars with two different trannies, the manual might win due to its more effective method of transferring power to the wheels, but undoubtedly, auto shift faster.

Imma fetch some more Jose Cuervo.

At least nothing in this entire Mercedesworld could even come within 15 or so carlengths, of that modded C6 (every tenth .01 in a race = 1 car length) I think the fastest amg here was 10.95 in the 1/4 w/nos as well

You do realize one is a pure-bred sports car, while the other is a four door sedan with all the luxuries and more?

Oh you mean luxuries like?

Bose stereo
XM Satellite radio
Heated Multi-function power leather seats w/inflatable side & rear air bladders
Heads Up Display(displays-digital speed, rpm, fuel levels, lateral G-forces, radio stations, navigation prompts, street & track modes on windshield)
6 disk CD changer
On Star, (hands free phone system, vehicle tracking when stolen, etc.)
Touch screen GPS Navigation
Key-less go (auto lock & open when w/in a few feet of doors w/fob)
Push button start ignition
Opening doors-Mechanical latches have been replaced w/electronic ones, enabling user to simply make contact w/touch pad on outside door pocket, from inside the car all you do is push a button on the door handle.
etc...funny my C6 came w/all of these + a removable roof!! or a Transparent tinted one...

I wish it wasn't such a stripped bare bones interior

You win on the heads up display, I'm talking about soft supple leather, drive dynamic seats, airmatic or ABC (does ABC come as an option on the W211?), a solid ride at supercruising speeds, etc.

You used to have a S-Class right? You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Yeah, Yeah, you win on the supple leather one bud! although the C6 does have the F55 opition similar to airmatic or ABC

Mercedes leathers, overall interior design destroys the C6.

Ahh I think you need to get a ride in a new C6....Smooth as silk at 100+ solid as a rock no joke...Also great soft yet firm non body roll in sharp cornering.

Don't get me wrong man, I'm still around here because I love Merc's as well there's no denying there out right beauty, exterior/interior and engineering excellence, not to mention KRAZY HP & Torque

I'm just shocked at how great these new C6 vettes really are

A friend of mine (I use the term friend loosely, we know each other through association) let me ride in his Z06. It's black with a bunch of mods. I have no idea what kind of setup though and I'm not sure if it's even fair because it was modded, but it drove stiffer than an M3. It's nice, but I seriously wouldn't be able to live with it

The C6's are a great improvement, but then again, the Americans seems to be a few years late to every game

WOW, I did not anticipate this type of response when I posted the thread. I strongly believe that one would appreciate any type of cars if one was an enthusiast. Nicely done Corvettes, custom rods, 9000 rpm redline Japanese motorcycle-inspired engines, uber-sophisticated european cruisers, etc... anything!... What is up with all the envy and jealousy and trashing of other makes?

As far as talking about the auto transmission, as touched on by previous posters, there are different uses. It's obvious that this particular Vette is built for the 1/4 runs. (See the rear end work and new ratio for faster straight runs) When the poster questioned the use of an auto in this case he illustrated the narrowmindedness of his thinking.
