Looking at the guy's street tires, if the ML hooked up (and I think I saw that video) it's entirely possible. However....that Vette looks like a beast and with M/T's, it's no contest.

A well-crafted automatic can accelerate faster than a manual; the 997 Turbo would be a prime example of this. The manual is more of a driver's preference. My ATV is a 6-Speed, and I would never purchase an automatic one on the grounds that the shifts are extremely quick and that I have complete control of the powerband. However, when riding, I don't neccessarily deal with the perils of traffic. Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with an automatic car. Takes away from driving experience? Remember, it's the man behind the wheel that makes the ride enjoyable.
Still, I cannot wait to test out a F1-style paddle shift transmission.

Be nice to Newton. As I said before, it's all preference. In drag racing, there are alot of automatics out there, especially in pro-built cars. You might recall a while back I posted a link to a 1500+ RWHP Supra with a 4SP slushbox. I think driving that car will take more balls than any manual from the factory.

I mean, a manual has an awesome third pedal. That must mean its FAST. Have you ever been down to a quarter mile track? Have you ever seen built track cars? Tell me the type of transmissions they sport.

As far as daily driving, it is driver preference. I would prefer a manual or a BMW with SMG but I live in in this crappy city where it makes no sense. I have never found pleasure in driving an auto

I wasn't bashing manual cars, I love them, and they're much more fun to drive. I'm just tired of all the kids that run around thinking manual is completely faster than a slushy auto in a straight line. Sure, given the scenario of identical cars with two different trannies, the manual might win due to its more effective method of transferring power to the wheels, but undoubtedly, auto shift faster. Imma fetch some more Jose Cuervo.

You do realize one is a pure-bred sports car, while the other is a four door sedan with all the luxuries and more?

although the C6 does have the F55 opition similar to airmatic or ABC![]() Mercedes leathers, overall interior design destroys the C6. Last edited by Thericker; 12-30-2006 at 04:55 AM. |

A friend of mine (I use the term friend loosely, we know each other through association) let me ride in his Z06. It's black with a bunch of mods. I have no idea what kind of setup though and I'm not sure if it's even fair because it was modded, but it drove stiffer than an M3. It's nice, but I seriously wouldn't be able to live with it
![]() The C6's are a great improvement, but then again, the Americans seems to be a few years late to every game

WOW, I did not anticipate this type of response when I posted the thread. I strongly believe that one would appreciate any type of cars if one was an enthusiast. Nicely done Corvettes, custom rods, 9000 rpm redline Japanese motorcycle-inspired engines, uber-sophisticated european cruisers, etc... anything!... What is up with all the envy and jealousy and trashing of other makes?
As far as talking about the auto transmission, as touched on by previous posters, there are different uses. It's obvious that this particular Vette is built for the 1/4 runs. (See the rear end work and new ratio for faster straight runs) When the poster questioned the use of an auto in this case he illustrated the narrowmindedness of his thinking. |
