OK I didn't pay attention much in school, but isn't a Communism an even distribution of wealth amongst the Countries members? I imagine there would be some "Tax Brackets" of their own, and they'd perhaps be very general, but in order to build your worth, per-se, it would come down to how well you can save?

One of the hottest and most important debates about the global economy is whether China's slowing economy would experience a hard or soft landing.

For the most part, experts have argued that the landing would be soft. In other words, the deceleration in growth would be moderate and manageable.

However, speaking at a conference, JP Morgan's Adrian Mowat said that the slow down has been much more severe and would characterize a hard landing. From Bloomberg's Weiyi Lim:

“If you look at the Chinese data, you should stop debating about a hard landing,” Mowat, who is based in Hong Kong, said at a conference in Singapore yesterday. “China is in a hard landing. Car sales are down, cement production is down, steel production is down, construction stocks are down. It’s not a debate anymore, it’s a fact.”

“One should be concerned about what’s happening in the China property market,” Mowat said at yesterday’s conference. “People are too complacent that the government can turn what’s going on in this market.”

“What you can look forward to is to see a pickup in property demand that will clear up the inventory; that doesn’t appear likely,” Mowat said in an interview after the conference yesterday. “I don’t see any evidence of a policy move that will cause the economy to reaccelerate.”

Chinese new year holidays affected Q1 numbers as they always do because the entire country is on holidays for couple weeks at least.

Anyone who calls 7.5 percent from around 8 percent a hard landing must be on crack. Some are revising the numbers to over 8 percent.

Perhaps you should put down the DailyKOS playbook, this is not a global warming, errrrr, climate change thread. Refuting a factual presentation authored by a well respected intellectual by ignoring his argument and panning the company that writes his paycheck is not an accepted practice in economics.

Ian Ashby, President of Iron Ore for BHP Billiton just gave a presentation at the AJM Global Iron Ore & Steel Forecast Conference in Australia.

And investors weren't too thrilled to hear what he had to say about China.

From The Sydney Morning Herald:

"Growth is going to flatten off," BHP's iron ore division president, Ian Ashby said ahead of the Global Iron Ore & Steel Forecast Conference in Perth, adding that demand growth was seen falling into single digits.

''Growth will be less than what it has been, those times have been exceptional,'' he said. ''There is still tremendous opportunity to grow our iron ore business.''

Weak iron ore demand from China isn't just bad news for BHP Billiton. It could be a sign that China's economy is slowing by more than most think, which would have significant implications for the global economy.

You doomsday-seekers are funny, wait and wait until you have a case and "AHA! I told you!"

Things go up, then things go down, then they go back up again. Watch the Stock Market or world economy as proof.

China's growth will indeed slow, but is it proven that they'll spin into disaster? As far as I'm concerned, their rates of growth are that of what pretty much any other Country in the world can only dream of. At this point, they're surpassing the U.S (or surpassed) in being the worlds largest economy. Their task from here on out is sustaining.
