Do we NEED flat screen TV's, video games and Mercedes? Hell no, but they are fun as hell to have and to play with. Same thing with guns or any other hobby.

I know you didn't say "need" but you kind of implied the same thing...

The most important reason of all to be a gun owner.

That's true but it will be way too cold to enjoy it, I'm going to attend in April.

If you are going to go in December let me know how you liked it...

I am SO jealous of the gun laws in Texas. You guys have every right to defend yourselves and it's a beautiful thing.

CH, don't you know that here in the Northeast only criminals are allowed to carry concealed... and they're exempt from the background checks as well. Thank god we have such strict gun laws here, it really curbed the gun violence to almost non-existent.

Exactly. Imagine if we didn't have such strict gun control laws, it would be ANARCHY. I mean, street vendors in Times Square would start carrying fully automatic machine pistols!!

Oh wait.....

Clearly the best solution to thugs carrying stolen guns is even tighter gun control for law-abiding citizens!

(According to Bloomberg)

Just once I would like to hear a logical argument from anybody how exactly would tighter gun laws reduce gun violence and illegal gun problem in any area of the US? I see Bloomberg and others talk about how they would restrict gun sales and such but not once I heard a real argument why would it be effective in reducing illegal guns.

I wish just one time an interviewer would pose this exact question to one of the proponents of it but I know it would never happened because the interviewee would have no answer.

PS. I actually like Bloomberg apart from his anti-gun agenda.

Well when Britain got rid of "all" hand guns, gun violence only increased by 350%

yup and when Kennesaw, Georgia made it mandatory for every household to own a firearm by law, immediately "crime against persons plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, and fell another 45 percent in 1983 compared to 1982."

Thanks. I don't know how you'll feel with these grips on your Baer, I don't like them on mine. They're actually my pimp grips. I switch over to VZ tactical grips when I shoot. Especially IPSC type runs.

So, as some may know in a different thread here in the OT-I went a little OT and mentioned that I had been a resident of a certain state instituion back in 1999 (for 3 years....)-well-when released, I had all rights reinstated except the right to own a handgun (per SD codified law). I contacted an attny here in MN and asked how to start the process to see if I can have that right back (I do think Obama is that start of the end-and I want a way to defend myself and wife)-he suggested that I apply-and see what the decline reason is. I applied 2 Fridays ago-and my permit to purchase handguns showed up in the mail last night.
Yep-out system is broke like you wouldnt believe (I did include a copy of my discharge papers so the local sheriff could contact SD state DOC).
Think its a trick?
Any suggestions on a first time buyer hand gun to practice with? Target shooting on my back 20, ect is all this would be used for-I need to do lots of homework before I start dropping big(er) money on pistols.
Thanks!

A lot of people say start with a .22, because there's no recoil and they're easy to use and clean. I say screw that. Start with the caliber you're going to be defending yourself with. My first gun was a .45, and it's my favorite gun to shoot till this day.

You'll get a million opinions here on what to buy for your first, but your best bet is to first pick a caliber, shoot a few guns, then start working on which one to buy. Sig and H&K make the best factory handguns on the market, period. Glock and S&W are also great brands, and the Springfield xd, while ugly as sin, has garnered a loyal crowd.

I've held Sig P225's and like them (balance, ect)-I'm thinking a 9mm to start-I'd like to get a .22 w/ suppresor for the backyard, and a 45 of shotgun for the home-then start to branch out-17 cal varmit rifle for fun, MP5 for field work, ect.
Any good place to sort out Sig guns (aside from their site....)-
I just wonder if the cost of a .45 and ammo will out weigh it-I plan on going thru a good amount of rounds to start and get the feel of a handgun.

If you want to start with a great 9mm, get yourself a Pre-2004 Sig 226. Their QC has gone downhill since their new CEO has taken over, but the old 226's are FANTASTIC weapons.

www.gundirectory.com is a great website.

I know you didn't say "need" but you kind of implied the same thing...

Sure we all collect stuff, but where I come from, the stuff being collected is hockey cards, coins, stamps, Transformers, and cell phones? If you asked me to name someone I know personally who collects guns, I'd actually draw a blank. (no pun intended)

About the whole "defending your family" argument, do people down in the States encounter violent robberies all the time? Up here, 75% of the crime you encounter is someone smashing into your car while you're at the mall and stealing your GPS and a few bucks in change. And if someone sees the guy, the guy bolts. Same goes for break-ins to your house. Thieves only break into houses they think are empty (they ring the doorbell first and leave if they hear someone coming) over here and are looking for loot, not a confrontation. Again, guns would do nothing in this situation since you're out at the mall with your family.

We're not allowed to have guns up here anyways (only a small selection from what I understand) and they just closed down the last shooting range in the city, so most of us do day trips to WA to play with them now.
