Relocating to SC need some input.

I am relocating to SC for my job. I can go to Anderson and maintain my current pay rate, was already set up to move there mentally ( had known about it for a few weeks so I had some time to look around and what not)

Got called today and have a customer in Spartanburg SC that I have dealt with before and the customer has requested that I come there to be there on site maintenance and PLC engineer. It would come with a 10% increase in pay immediately, moving expense paid, ( only have about a month before I move and no time to look for a place to live between now and then) and it would be about a year long stint maybe slightly longer.

I have done some research and Anderson has a far lower crime rates than Spartanburg. I know every place has its ups and downs and so on. Looking for anyone that lives in or near either of those places that can give me some insight on the town and what there is to do around there etc. Im currently in a town that is a college town and not much to do around here other than party and Im burnt out on that.

Just looking for some advice on what areas to avoid in either town. I have not made up my mind yet as to where Im going. Hoping some fellow MB owners could shed some light for me.

Thanks,
Andrew

I was born in Anderson. City is relatively safe, no issues anymore (like their used to be in the early 90s) Best places to live are on the north end of town. Roads are hwy81 north near concord rd (google maps will help with this) Brown road which runs into concord, good school system there. and some areas closer to downtown. I'll find a map of the city and highlight areas for you in a little

Have you thought about Greenville though? Much more to do there, granted its not that far away either and on your way to Spartanburg

the red is the general area where you can live and find a place.. I put the blue spots for known apartment complexes that I remember that are cheap and easy to get to the interstate from. hwy 81 puts you closer towards spartanburg and Gvegas (Greenville) and hwy 76 is your main drag, it has all the restaurants and hotels and shopping as well as dealers, Greenville has the local Mercedes dealership (Carlton)

Anything else and don't hesitate to hit me up. Will also pm you to make sure you were able to check this thread out

neliconcept, thanks for the info! I decided to take the Spartanburg job for now as it is only a year to 18 month deal. The pay increase is also a plus and it looks good on my part for assisting the customer in a tight spot. will most likely be in Anderson after this though.

I compared Spartanburg and Anderson and of course Anderson has less crime and better areas etc. I am considering Greenville ( or north Greenville in that area) since it is between both places. Any recommendations or advice? Areas to avoid etc?

Good to know there is a MB dealer there. How are they as far as customer service?

Thanks,
Andrew

North Greenville in general is pretty good, Taylors, all areas are not bad considering, I think its the west area near white horse road that isn't that great. Granted I am not familiar with Greenville as much, my mother is though as she grew up there, I could give her a ring and ask.

Pelham rd and that area in general is considered the luxury areas. Golf courses and all the nicer houses. and some areas in downtown also provide the same feel.
