Actually, the private company named Federal Reserve is the largest holder of treasury notes, leading china by about 200b. But don't tell the American public, they might wake up...

I would not call the Federal Reserve a private company...the U.S. Government receives all of the annual profits which includes a mandated 6% dividend.

It is more of a Public private partnership (PPP) on paper. The private partners receive very little profit though and have minimal influence on governance.

Anyway $200B is just enough to fund the military's $900B +/- 2012 spending for under 3 months...
