Updated stats later this month.

I'd love to provide more precise stats and cover all model years--just a matter of getting more people involved.

CLS63 Designo Edition, Hyundai Genesis 3.8 , Veloster Turbo, CLS500(Sold), E320 (SMOKED) R500 (Sold)
Reliability? Let's just say the R and some other lines of trucks do not have the best reputation there. As for me, the R500 is gone. Too many issues, too much money, and too little miles on it.

At 97,000 miles all of this:

All struts have failed and been replaced. All of them, and the pump around 20K miles. At around 99K miles, strut on front right went bad and was replaced under warranty with Arnott.

Valve cover gaskets: Over 4 times since owned, reading on other brands, and experience with the E320, CLS500, and CLS63, nothing of the like.

EGR Valve: Bunkers, and carbon build-up..IDK.

Transmission sensor : Wow that was a mess.

Transmission crapped out, replaced.

So at 99K miles, let it go. Time for a different route, since my wife drives it she opted for a Hyundai fully loaded. I was shocked with her choice, but oh well. 100K mile warranty, 5 years of oil changes, a lot less gas, no worries for her.

I would suggest anyone that gets one of the MB truck lines, do your research.

As for me..sticking with what I have.

The current generation M and GL appear significantly more reliable than earlier ones.

We've updated our reliability stats for the R-Class to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008 R-Class: 79, moderate, very small sample size
2007 R-Class: 101, high, small sample size
2006 R-Class: 81, moderate, very small sample size

Additional participants would be very helpful. (I'd love to be able to drop the disclaimers and cover all model years.)

To view the repairs behind these numbers, check the stats for other cars, and sign up to help improve this information (next update in February):

We've updated our reliability stats for the R-Class to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2008 R-Class: 174, high, very small sample size
2007 R-Class: 68, moderate, very small sample size
2006 R-Class: 121, high, very small sample size

With more participants, we could provide more precise stats and cover more model years.
