Roof Rack Install at the Stealership

Just picked up a used R500 and went to the dealership to order the bars for the roof (so I can add a carrier). He asked me if I wanted them installed (the bars), I said isn't it free? He said no, it would take 2 hours and cost $290!!!!!!

You just need to screw in 4 bolts, correct?

Thats sounds like RAPE! I hope you chose to install them yourself, because I'm really starting to feel sorry for all the whining babys on this site that can't do anything for themselves!

I picked up a used roof rack for $120 and installed myself.
It should not take more than 15 minutes for all 4 bolts.

Thanks! I just assumed they would do it for free (since I'm buying from them and it is so easy.... 4 bolts to secure)....

How much does a Mercedes dealership charge to secure 4 bolts, about $73 per bolt,,,

It's super easy to install yourself-- takes about 10 minutes. Yup just four bolts that you tighten and the key to secure the cover on the rack at each corner.

Congrats! You save $290 for the labor. Screw the stealer.
Now you have money to take your wife and kids to the expensive restaurant.

20 minutes? 10 minutes? I pop my Thule rack and cargo box on and off all the time. It takes about 5 minutes total. It's very easy.
