R350
R350 tailgate will not open or shut.

A friend manually opened and forcefully closed our tailgate. Now, it will not open or close by pushing any of the buttons inside, outside, or on key chain. It will open manually, however, when we open manually, it will not stay up.
The local "Foreign car" repair shop said it as the liftgate motor pump and would cost $700 for just the part. From my discussion with them, it seems as though they had never done one of these before. So, I am hesitant this will actually fix the problem. Would love to repair it myself but I am not sure where to start. Any help or assistance on what needs to be done would be greatly appreciated.

We do have a MB dealership in town but I chose not to go there due to higher prices.

FTR, I hate this freakin car. Every year we spend $2-$4 grand on it.

It maybe a long shot but check these threads out. R and ML use very similar mechanism.

Btw, I dislike the reliability of the R-class too and that is why we are trading it in before my extended warranty runs out this September.
