Engine serial number illogical cluster****

How am I supposed to interpret and understand this moronic wikipedia line:

M272 engines that were sold between 2004[1][2] and 2008 with engine serial numbers below 2729..30 468993 often show early wear of the balance shaft gears, requiring extensive repairs at a retail cost of over $4000. [3]
In my case the online VIN decoder says: 272967 30 173216. Therefore the first part is higher while the second part is lower. Though I don't even know. Arithmetically, is 272967 higher than 2729... ?

So in wikipedia's logic, my engine is potentially a lemon if the first part is below X, if the second part is below X or if both parts are below X ?


Note to our beloved german engineers:
You guys are usually geniuses, but a s/n by definition should be sequential. Even if the plant skips numbers (for whatever reason), for the love of everything holy, why the heck you didn't keep it in one piece, like a VIN ?
