Major Electrical problem

In October of last year I bought a 2007 R320CDi from my mechanic. U Haul installed a hitch on it at that time but did not do it correctly. I have since found out from your posts on here what should have been done. They screwed the wiring up and after taking it to the dealership for almost a month they finally said the only way to fix the issue is to have a whole new wiring harness made in Germany and then strip the now bad one out of my car and replace it. At this point I have a car that I have not been able to drive since last year slowly rotting away in my driveway while the mechanic fights with U-haul for the damages.
I need to get this fixed. Any suggestions?

it is hard to believe that. Obviously MB will only suggest *perfect* repairs. what exactly was damaged on the wiring? Will UHaul pay for repairs?
I just added trailer harness to my 2008 R320, and while it took me a while and some frustration to figure it out, in the end the solution was simple.

do you have pictures of the damage? where wires shorted and melted?

I would collect up as much documentation regarding the situation and then ask U-Haul to flip the bill.
