08 R320 CDI has a shudder at low speed, low rpm
just bought a 2008 R320 CDI with 107,500 miles on the clock. Recently it has started shuddering at low speeds, I'm noticing it's usually at lower rpms as well. Usually in 2,3 gears, sometimes 4. I don't see anything wrong with the driveshaft components. I've heard that there are updates available from time to time for the trans, but have no idea how up to date my car is. Any idea what my vibration is, or how I can check to see if my car is up to date? Thanks for any responses that come my way! Love my Benz, don't want to part ways with it! Help me keep it!

Since I have the gas R, I can only comment on drive train and such. So, I would also check to see that you have had differential fluid changes done. Also, the transfer case. Keep a look out for air spring issues. Hopefully some of the active diesel owners will chime in on diesel specific things.

Also experiencing "shudder"
For the past several months the shuddering has gotten progressively worse, this despite a Tranny, Transfer Case, Rear Diff service by the Dealer. AT Fluid/Filter change - it made no difference.
At low RPM, under load, partial throttle it will now shudder pretty loudly. But either backing off, or giving it more throttle tends to make it go away. There's a certain amount of throttle that always gives you shudder. So, I've learned to stay away from that spot best I can.
I'm assuming it's badly worn clutch plates in the A/T. And that one day I'll be toolin' down the freeway and the AT will just frag itself all over the road!
According to the Dealer everything looked hunky-dory with all the fluids at the last Service. So, hmmm. Anyone have any other opinions?
I would most appreciate some knowledgeable input.

Maybe the injection is a little too early? Is it a speed thing or and RPM thing? That would tell a little more about the issue.

See ours hasn't done anything like that....
There are things engine wise that could cause a stutter as well, but since both posters have diesels I won't even hazard a guess...
marc... this one is all yours bud....

If it's strictly speed related, it's not likely the motor. If it's RPM related it narrows it down to the motor or transmission.

I think it has to do with fuel delivery / air mixture and pressure.
I've experience similar problem with a Sprinter we have at work and I believe the dealer eventually had to replace EGR valve.

Would an egr delete possibly help? I've only ever read bad things about egr systems on diesels.... Living in an area where they do not require emissions, I could see that being beneficial to me in many ways.....

So it's at the dealership now, guy called me with what I thought was rather odd news... My check engine light had been on for a bit, one of the reasons it went in, and he told me my intake charge pipe was BROKEN! I would expect MB to make quality products, the car has around 108,000 miles on it, which seems way too few for an intake pipe to physically break. Heck, I've never had that happen on any of my old beaters! Am I the only one who's had this happen?
