lowering R500
Hi,
I've been thinking about lowering my R 500 with airmatic suspension.
What's the best way to lower, lowering links or a module?
Would there be more risk of wheels crashing into wheel arches on a lowered car if air strut was to fail when driving along?
Regards
David

I am going to pick up my 2013 R350 next week from the dealer. I wanted to figure out how to lower the full automatic too. I like the idea of software more. Lowering it won't make any difference when you automatic fail. The R can only be so low without air.

I'm using aftermarket adjustable links for four corners. Myself I don't think is a good idea to overwrite the factory default setting. Also for those links it's easy to pull off and pop it back in.

lowered with the lowering module yesterday. max is 2" for front and back. over all the system is easy to install, the guide and the system is very well done. with the airmatic, lower 2" doesn't change the ride at all, very happy with it. kind of hope the back can drop a bit more.

depend on the offset of the wheels. I think the module only work with full airmatic, in your case you can lower with spring up front and lowering link on the back.

You'll have to get a set of aftermarket coil springs in the front, and then you can use some adjustable links to lower the rear.

Depend on cost I will be interested in a set of shorter bag/spring
Unfortunately, 2" is about the lowering limit in the rear of the R before the ride starts to become unbearable, and perhaps slightly dangerous. At that height, there is very little air pressure in the factory rear springs, so the rear suspension gets VERY wallowy, and reacts very poorly to road conditions... making for a poor ride. The best way to get the rear lower, while maintaining good drivability would be to replace the rear air springs with "shorter" units. I'd always been planning to make a set for myself, but as more people seem to be talking about-and actually-modifying their Rs... I'm wondering if it'd be worthwhile to make a couple extra sets..
