Transfer case or differential?
Ok first thanks for reading.
I have a 2008 r350 gas 4matic. I am coming up on another oil change. and plan on changing the differential fluid, or transfer case fluid. really just a question of which its called. I have seen videos on how to change it. I am going to buy it from MB but wanted to make sure I was asking about the right fluid.

Out Of Control!!
Your terminology is somewhat off---your 4Matic has a transfer case that uses.5 liter of ATF fluid spec 236.12---------Your differential is a differential and uses 1.1 liter of 75W85 gear oil with a 235.7 spec!!

So which one is like what I thought? Thanks again.

MB told me I would need 3 quarts of each if I remove all the fluid.
Plutoe your numbers were .5 and 1.1. Marc, you said 2 differentials and one case.
Not sure how this all looks with the MB info. So my next question is @ Plutoe is the .5 and 1.1 for a DIY job and MB is talking a more complete removal?
If I have that right does that mean I only need 1 quart of transfer and say 2 of the differential or 3 to make sure I have enough?

Thats the main reason I am posting. I didnt get a warm and fuzzy. He first said 3 quarts. I said total? Or each. He said each. He then said only one each if I just wanted to top them off, but 3 if I was changing it all. I started to debate it and felt I wasnt going to like any answers I got and would post here.
So from someone who has done it, how much of what did you use? Please be specific as to transfer case and for each diff. Thanks again.
I have ordered air filters (cabin, intake, oil) oil and will be doing that this weekend. Btw they still have the rebate for oil. I got 5 quarts mobile one european from amazon for 22.88 x2 and will be sending 2 $12 rebates in. So 33.86 for 10 quarts and I will have 4 quarts left over ( 2 from my last oil change) so half of the next oil change.

So 1 liter for both front and rear or each. And I didnt ask what the fluid was just how much and how much I needed. So although it was transmission fluid in the transfer case how much did u use?

Transfer case and transmission were done at the same time, so I don't know how much went into the transfer case. I'm guessing about a litre.

I found this on Amsoil's site:
Differential, Front..........1.1 liters
Differential, Rear..........1.1 liters
Transfer Case, ..........0.5 laters
So for the diffs, if you are buying in quarts, you will definitely need to buy 3 total
