Broken Exterior Door Handle Mechanism Help
In all my years of driving a car, I have never witnessed a broken door handle. All that changed a few weeks ago when my R63 rear passenger door handle stopped opening the door. I pulled apart the door to see what happened. MB Dealer wants $530 for the complete assembly as the broken part isn't available for purchase. I refuse to spend that $$ on something so simple, so I'm coming to this forum. I'm new to MB ownership so I don't know where to find/locate used parts, but I'm sure they are out there, OR does anyone have this part?

Firstly, congrats on the R63 !
Second, commiserations on the W251 ~ :|
Don't get me wrong, my family LOVES our R500... this is coming after 2 brand new sedonas and a brand new odyssey...
Unfortunately, the W251 is a rare enough beast and the R63 I imagine would be even worse for after market parts not directly from MB.
Best place i would suggest for what you're looking for it ebay or craigslist... i imagine that the door assembly IS the same in any of the R Class, so look up 'parting out R350' ... the only thing i would worry about is if they'll sell you the door assembly without the actual door (unless panel damaged?) ... even if they don't list the particular part, if you see them parting out ANY R class, give them a call and ask for the piece...
Best of luck
(ps. i was missing a airbag plastic cover on the A pillar... it WAS listed on the mercedes parts list and when i called up to order it, they informed me it was no longer in production, but they'll happily SELL me a complete A Pillar ... found the little piece of plastic on ebay for $7)

Ok last thought !
if you're desperate and want to try something cheap and easy... lookup
Blue Magic QuikSteel Epoxy.
You'll find it at Autozone (and a sample to check out the strength) and cheaper at Walmart.
I can vouch for how hard this stuff gets ... it's seriously like steel/rock, and it does not take the amount of time that traditional epoxy takes to dry. It would most probably be strong enough to handle it...
If you do get it, make sure you slice and mix the equal amount of putty (black and grey) ... it comes like cookie dough and the grey outer has a black middle which is what you mix up... i didn't see that the first time and only used the grey part... it didn't work (duh) so i thought it was crap

Hi there - I had the same problem when my son pulled too hard on the handle and broke the mechanism.
My research showed that the W164 ML uses the same internals. I purchased a handle assembly from the US (Colorado Imports) and changed it over.
My handle also broke and it cost me nearly $800 to fix in total. The dealer wanted $2.5k locally!
The parts are left / right specific so make sure you buy the correct side.

I didn’t buy that part new.
I bought the whole handle from a wrecked w164 ML and swapped out that part. I suggest you ring a local wrecker and get one. Shouldn’t be more than $50-$100.
Mercedes will be in the hundreds if not $1k

Try this place. https://www.asv.com.au/now-wrecking/...nz-ml350-w164/
It also doesn’t need to be from a model with keyless entry. They may be charging you more for the keyless entry handle too.
Make sure you get the correct side too. Left and right are different
Here is one on eBay for $170 from Vic. I’m not sure what side you are after.

ok it works, as the handle is working as i can open and close the door but it seems the keyless is not working. I am not sure because the wiring is broken due to the cable being broken when it was pulled out

Are you saying you broke the wires when you took the handle off? Can you resolder the wires together?
My actual door handle broke as well and I had to order a new one. The first few times I opened the door it didn’t recognize the keyless open or close but after leaving it overnight, it started working again.
