I would take an R63 over a C63 anyday..why? I have 5 people in the family..kids are getting bigger (teens) plus the AWD is perfect for CO snow. Remember speed isn't a factor for everyone, it all depends on personal factors. I wouldn't mind having 500hp in a large vehicle and still be able to get around with a full vehicle in the snow..

Its a rare care built for a few people who wanted it. I agree is a crazy car but if I find one at a good price it will replace the R350 daily driver beater car in a heart beat. The R drives a lot better than most people expect. |

Hmm. Tempting. What other mods would that require? Nevermind; too many. The R63 seems like the better choice. |

Let me guess. You don't have kids and you don't live in an area that requires 4-wheel drive in the winter? The R63 is the ultimate family ski weekend machine! I really like them. |

I always thought it was an awesome wagon and if I had to choose, it would be my dream daily driver...
And you have to remember that if AMG put their badge on this car then it's got to be a winner. Plus it's got the looks to go with the power... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I almost bought one for the wifey too. It would have been the fastest minivan too. But the GL won me over.

I don't get it either. ML63 sits 5 people no problem and is also AWD. ML63 is definitely a better off-road/snow car as well, not to mention its much better looking.

Better off-road? Come on, neither of these cars can handle much more than a gravel road. They're both equally excellent in the snow with proper tires.

People who question the R class simply haven't driven one. Yes the R63 may be a bit over kill for some, but it's not like it was mass produced. It was built for a few select people who payed up front and got exactly what they wanted.

Why R63?
Let me tell you why R63, cause I have one.
The main reason for having the R63 is because its rare and only minivan that comes with 500HP. My final goal is to have the following: 500HP+ Exotic Sports Car (430 Scuderia) 500HP+ SUV with Off Road Capability (G55 AMG) 500HP+ Convertible (Many to choose from) 500HP+ Minivan (R63 AMG) 500HP+ Sedan (Most ideal is S65 AMG) Do I still miss anything? |

Meh, the R is a great idea on MBs part, but I just cant get over the styling. I think its hideous, something akward with the proportions.
I will say that they do drive quite well though. Doesnt feel like a van from behind the wheel. |

I, too, own an R63 and even after almost 3 years and 46000 miles I still smile every time I get behind the wheel. I decided on the R63 because it combined the utility of a van with the driving dynamics and performance of a sedan. That being said, I understand that a 5000 pound vehicle will never handle like a Porsche, but it goes, handles, stops and hauls better than any other vehicle of its type and surprises a lot of supposed "performance" vehicles at stop lights. Another reason I enjoy this vehicle is that with only about 100 R63's registered in the United States it is much more unique than most other so called "rare" vehicles and that goes for any R Class Model. Regarding the subjective topic of "styling" there is no doubt that the R Class generates a lot of mixed feelings. However, I have had many people approach me in parking lots commenting about how much they like the looks. Frankly, I don't see people going up to the owners of 190E or 190D models and and commenting on their styling. Styling is subjective which by definition means that not everybody is going to like the same thing and thank goodness for that or else everybody would be driving something that looks like everything else. Ten years from now it will be interesting to see what vehicles people are talking about. I don't think those conversations are going to include Toyota Camrys, Dodge Caravans or Honda Odysseys.

Compare the R63 to comparable vehicles
Why the R63?
You can't compare the R63 to say, a C63 or SL63, Porsche. Obviously, a sedan, cab or sports car will look "better" than the R63 (minivan), and comparitively speaking, could be said to look "ugly". But this is not a fair comparison, or should not even be compared. If you compare the R63 minivan to OTHER minivans such as an Odyssey, Caravan, Venza, Uplanders etc., then the R63 or any other R class simply looks AWESOME. That's why we select few have the R63. I have embarassed on occasion, supposed sports cars such as M3, Porsches, etc....the look on their faces are in 1 word....PRICELESS. This is from a guy who has owned mulitple 911s, other AMG cars, Audi RS cars, and even the most recent R35 GT-R. Of all the cars, call me crazy ....the R63 is among my most favouriteI think 1 day, the R63 will become a classic.

Is MB completely done building R63s? And was 4matic standard or an option?
(I know I could google these and find the answers in 12 minutes, but an answer here is easier and more accurate - thanks all)

Who's to say its really completely done though. Its safe to say the W251 version of the R63 is dead, but with MB announcing the R will live on, they may bring a new w252 R63 to the table shortly after the new model debuts. |
