Exclamation Battery not charging

I have a 94 w140 s350D turbo diesel. My Bat light was flickering while driving, I looked under car and found a wire coming off alternator had broke off. I replaced the terminal end and re-installed it. now the light is steady and Battery will not charge. There is no voltage at the (what I thought was the exciter wire) wire. Is there a fuse or relay if so where are they. please help

Have the system load tested to determine the fault!!

I don't have a manual . I'm only getn 11.5 volts at the bat. all the fuses are good. I don't know what relays to check or where they are.

Check the alternator belt and replace the voltage regulator on the alternator. The brushes are likely long over due.

On most modern cars there is a fast blow fuse between the alternator and the battery. 11.5V may be just the battery under load. Test at alternator with meter with clips.

When the car is NOT running, the positive wire on the alternator to ground will have the full voltage of the battery.
