79 280se battery ground help for non working instrument cluster

Hey all!
I just sold my 03 e55 but picked up a low mileage 1979 280se. The only gauge on the instrument panel that seems to be working is oil pressure. I've done some searching on the site. The fuses are good. I'm working on the battery/ground situation. The wrong battery was in the car and a single cable was going from the battery to the body.

I'm buying a new battery and new ground cable. (The other was crappy). My question is: are there supposed to be any other grounds coming off the battery?
It seems like it wasn't set up correctly as is!

I'll look into the ground from the frame to the bell housing tomorrow when I throw the car up a bit. Any other suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance!
