"WHITE" smoke occassionally

Dear All
My Mb W126 ,560 Sel ,1991 ,140K Km is running perfectly.Kept at perfection at a heavy cost.
Occassionally ,it emits Really Huge Cloud of White smoke.Stop the car, turn off the motor.......restart.....No Smoke................
Have changed the valve which connects the GearBox to the exhaust....(which discharges the pressure from the gearbox into the exhaust).
nothing more to add...except that there is no engine oil /gearbox oil reduction.the White smoke has a specific...horrid....smell.Unlike anything i have smelt in the cars

If anyone has any idea...pls let me know
Thanks
Brgds

I own a 1986 560 SEL and a 1989 560 SEC
I have a similar problem! My '89 560 SEC smokes in the morning when I drive down hill at a 45 degree slope and puffs white smoke for about 5 minutes when the car is leveled on the road. Then it works fine when the engine gets hot. My catalytic converter looks pretty banged up as well as the rest of the exhaust pipes and muffler. The previous owner dragged the entire car after the SLS system failed. That plus they were dragging a trailer or something heavy, maybe a camper.

Sounds like hardened valve seals. When cold, they don't seat well enough, until warmed, hence the smoke.

Well looks like I solved the problem...I started with the muffler. I cut it pass the damaged exhaust pipes (almost compressed in half and with holes) before the resonators. The muffler had crystalized carbon deposits some water and oil. The exhaust hasn't smoked since. I also like the sound without the muffler. Last, I need to check miles per gallon use plus I hope that it passes the emissions test. Thanks for your reply.
