89 300sel radio issue

Hey guys just picked up an 89 300sel. Can't get any sound out of the radio. Head unit turns on. Switches thru stations. But no sound comes out not even static. All the speakers are there and plugged in and look to be in good shape. Are there any known normal issues that cause this? Any ideas? I made the jump from BMW to Mercedes so I'm new to these cars. Thanks

Just removed the fader switch cleaned all the contacts and got nothing.

What model number radio is it? Early 89's were a stand alone be0748 or
be0758 late 89's might have the 2 piece radio a be1432 2 piece unit, 1 in the dash and 1 in the trunk.
