New Owner, Question About Headlights

Hey guys,

I'm a proud new owner of a nicely preserved 1987 300SDL. Has a little bit of rust, but is otherwise an amazing car.

However, left headlight has a crack and a hole in the glass and right headlight surround is damaged as well. I want to buy a set of headlights for this car, but I have a question:

Most of the cars I see have the boring single piece insert setup like this, mine included:

However, every so often I see a nice looking two piece design, yet cannot trace which car it came on or where to purchase it:

Help me out!

I may have just found the answer, looks like those came on 1984 300 SD cars in the US. Will these fit mine?

I like those new ones with the exposed fogs in the pic there. i gotta admit that this is the first time Ive seen that particular one, most of the time they are solid silvery grey and not the clear plastic frame!
My 300SE takes the ones you originally have, and Ive already replaced the frames with new clear ones-
I'll research this too!

Headlights

I've own two w126s, 83 and 86 I have changed out the lights on both with Euros. After a minor front end collision I needed to replace the euros on my 86 again. I was able to find less expensive set made by an after market co, I believe Depro. They have a glass face that don't fade and can be changed and the light output turned out to work very well. Look at ebay. Enjoy your car.

when you say hole in the glass did you mean the main beam or the plastic part? the main beam can easily be purchased at any MB shop, they are locally available and not expensive and you need not change the whole assembly. Have you seen the euro version headlamp assy? much cleaner and better looking, it comes with one solid piece of thick glass covering the fog and the main beam.
