w126 monovalve repair part too tight

I have heating issues similar to ones fixed by replacing the monovalve. I purchased a monovalve repair kit, removed the old part, which slid out easily, and tried to put in the new part. Extremely tight, and actually froze in place about 3/4 of the way in. Manage to get out but now have no idea what to do. Has anyone else seen this problem - may just be a out of spec part and I could try another manufacturer...any ideas?
