repairing a sunroof

Working on my 1989 560 SEL. My sunroof motor is working but the sunroof pulls to one side and catches and will not open further. The tilt function does not move the door at all. Where do I start with this mess?

repairing sunroof

I did find a great video series to download at mercedessource.com. It's mainly a resource for DIY, but I could see mechanics using it too. I now have to find a window (no pun intended) where I can be without a sunroof for a few days while I follow his instructions and then try to source parts.

I did learn that much of the issues w/ the roofs occurs because of dirt build up and poor lubrication. MB has a specialty lubricant they spec, and it's really expensive.

Kent Bergsma at Mercedes Source sells it in smaller allotments in a better syringe for applying it.

Excellent Sunroof News!

Thank You Sir! I'm familiar with MercedesSource, but hadn't known that Kent has done an instructional! Will follow up, thanks to You ... Cheers, TF
