Instrument Cluster Lights

Hello, my interior lights for my instrument cluster do not turn on when my lights are turned on.

Is there a dimmer switch in these w126 models that I do not know of?

I checked the fuses and they are fine.

Thanks for your time, Daniel.

Also, it is a 1983 280SE

There is a knob in the "L" instrument cluster that looks like the front doors locking knobs, when pushed resets the mileage indicator_turn it left or right to control the instrument cluster light.

Thank you for the reply, it does feel like the knob is a dimmer switch, however my instrument lights still don't work. I was hoping it would have been an easy fix.

Thank you again for your reply.

Hello Daniel, odds are those lightbulbs are burned out. I know both of my Benz's have burned out bulbs in their instrument clusters and they aren't nearly as old as your car is. When you replace them I would suggest replacing the bulbs with LEDs as they draw less power and give a much cleaner white light than traditional lightbulbs.

Trick is actually pulling out the instrument cluster to change the lightbulbs. I haven't got an adequate tool to even try it with so have had LEDs sitting in a drawer for a couple years now.

you have to service the instrument cluster. Use contact cleaner all over. and replace the all the bulbs. Google w126 instrument cluster.
