fuel failure

Ok guys and gals,
I have a problem. I started it as normal was driving my son to school when all of a sudden the engine started sputtering and shut down. Coasted to side of road when looking to see if something came loose I noticed lots of fuel under the car. Long story short my spin on fuel filter spun itself off. I put a new filter on attempted to use the hand pump to prime it. Found that the hand pump was bad. Put a new pump on (pain in the butt) it will purge past the filter but will not purge thru the hard lines? What could it be? Please help. I really miss driving her.
