[Help!] 1990 300SE - Randomly dying

Hi All,

I have a 1990 300SE that has recently been giving my folks problems. Mainly, the car will just die even after being warmed up for a good time. Other times, the car will die after being driven somewhere for about 15 minutes, resting for maybe 10-15 minutes and starting.

It will start, they'll pull out of a lot or something and as they're sitting at a light it will go out. They've taken it to a couple of mechanics and even an MB dealership here in SoCal. They all say they can't replicate the issue but it will inevitably happen again. A number of parts have been replaced in an effort to isolate the problem but nothing has fixed it yet. The obvious suspects have been replaced (spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel relay, etc). I'll try to get the paperwork and post up all the repairs that have been done. It's pretty frustrating and has been happening for the last 6 months now.

I'm in SoCal so no extreme weather conditions or any damage to the car. It's in pristine condition with the scheduled maintenance performed at proper intervals. Car has about 170K mi.

Anything else I can provide, please let me know and I'll do my best. I love the car and they've since purchased another vehicle as the reliability was becoming a larger problem. I'd like to keep it for myself if I can get this problem fixed!

1991 MB 300-SEL
I realize this is an old thread, but it hit home as I went thru this on a 1991 300-SEL.

Dies/quits running after engine is warmed up. Let it sit for awhile - take off and down the road it dies again. More prevalent in warm weather. When it was cool outside - say 60F or below - it did not occur.

In my case it was a faulty fuel pump. Oddly enough a Ford dealer tech figured it out.
