Maaco paint job
As you know, our W126's aren't worth a lot of money. Mine had the clearcoat delaminating due to bad job by a previous owner. I didn't think spending $10K on a new paint job was the way to go and I remembered a friend having his Mustang painted at Maaco years ago. The paint came out very good so I thought, why not give them a try? If it doesn't work out, I'm out a thousand bucks.
Anyway, I went to Maaco in Crest Hill, Illinois. There's several different plans from a $299 special all the way to $2300 for the full monty. I chose a $1000 plan with an additional $200 for sealer. The total with taxes was $1251.
To be honest, I was totally blown away by the finish and thought it was better than most factory paints. I've included photos and the whole process from start to finish was 2 weeks.

Looks great in the pics, score for you !
Awesome color...it is garnet or almandine red?
You didn't want to bother with removing the lites, grill, etc, tho?

No overspray to speak of. I was really surprised how good of a job they did taping the car. I'm a picky guy and I feel I got way more than I expected.

Just when you start thinking that the world has forgotten the W126 ....
2017 and Gore Verbinski makes a film called "A cure for wellness" and it shows at beginning a most beautiful black 1st Gen W126 debadged LWB driving through the Swiss alps towards a castle. It's not a slight glimps but a extended scene showing pretty much every impressive corner of that car to the point it seems like a Mercedes W126 commercial. The car has all the headrests removed for better filming and it even has the electric rear sunshade even though the center rod is removed. Looking at your SEC after the paint job reminded me of that movie. Great job and car looks amazing.
