How do you remove the rear seat back rest?
I've removed the 5 bolts, one center and the four under the rear head rests, the 1st Aid kit compartment, and the L-shaped bracket from the center, (four bolts), as well as rear speaker grills and pulled away the shelf paneling... but alas alack the bloody thing still only pivots up slightly from the bottom. There must be some sneaky trick or hidden fasteners. I'm not devoid of mechanical knowledge but this one has stumpted me. (going on a week!) Not a good look driving around with the rear interior disassembled. I searched the threads on this site and the closest suggestion is that it could be stuck with adhesive, which I doubt as it feels too solid and "attached". The car in question is a S280[1996], without a power or heated rear seat. To be concise it is the vertical part of the rear seat that I wish to remove....and only to put on some bloody lambs skin seat covers. P l e a s e H E L P ! ! !

if it's anything like a w124, and it most probably is, pull it straight up... i can't explain it properly, but the seat back hangs on hooks, so if you pull it upwards (sometimes requires a bit of force) it should come off.

Rear seat removal
Thank you two gentlemen very much, it does make sense. I will try first thing in the morning. I suspected it needed a greater tug than what I was dishing out, but kept erring on the side of caution (=$), your advise has given me renewed confidence, especially the angle of attack and the securing loop info. A beer to you kind Sirs; if your ever in Grafton. Cheers

Speaking for the US model, I tried to take mine out (to get at the power headrest) and was told by MB tech there is a bolt near the top on each side. I was told you need to remove some of the trim on the sides, definately not push up like my 126.
