If you have not repaired your "BOSE" amp I suspect that is where your crackling comes from. I pulled the panel on the front door only to find out that it was the amp, speakers rarely go bad. The system has seven amps, if it is like my 500 SEL you have four speakers on the back deck two tied in parrallel, one on each side in the rear, and two in each front door. The door speakers are in an enclosure. There could be a tweeter behind the rear view mirror. If there are any speakers in the dash they are for the Ctel. The amp sits behind the liner in the trunk on drivers side.
Otherwise, it requires the seat control panel to be removed, there is a screw behind that, there might be a screw in the door pocket, the panel needs to be pulled off the door and then lifted to release it from the door frame, in addition to the normal wiring connectors to the door panel. This should give you a general idea

Thanks peter...another question
Thanks for the reply...this does help! questions: how do I get that back liner off? when I do pull the amp , how do I know if its good or bad? would I have to take it to a shop?
Also, in each door I have 3 speakers. 2 clustered together at the frnt of the door (frnt = closest to the steering wheel) and one small one(@ 3") near the bottom back of door. Is that a tweeter?
the cracking sound is only coming from the one small speaker on the passngr door. if the amp was bad wouldn't the sound be coming through all the speakers? i don't know...just asking. thanks again for your help.

how to get the amp out?
I removed the trunk liner but no amp is visible. there is a metal liner or barrier btween the trunk and the back seat. Could the amp be somewhere else? again I have an S600 '95 v12 not an SEL etc.... thanks!!!

The amp usually sits behind the fender liner (drivers side) as shown it is a multy channel amp, one channel can go, Becker rebuilds them and so do quality auto electronic shops. They usually go thru the entire amp since the failed parts are common.

There may be something in there that addresses this (like a door latch or something)

I have the driver's side speakers (top dash and door both) cutting out and in when road bumps occur, but audio plays normally through the rear and passenger channels. Thanks for pointing out where the amp is - I suspect a loose wire or something so will investigate the trunk now, as the head unit seems inaccessible unless one has magic tools or a service manual or both...
