Speedometer problem

Ordered a replacement rebuilt speedometer head...140 chassis....1992....
arrived today...installed it, odometer/trip meter works, speedometer works....great I thought! After a few miles...ABS light comes on and a few miles later..the speedometer stopped working!
Ideas? A MB tech tells me that the ABS module works inconjunction with the speedometer.
ABS light was not on before now with the new speedometer installed.....and this problem....maybe the MB tech is on to something.
Thoughts? Correct fix?
And with NO decent MB techs on Guam....I'm hurting! They are parts changers here.....Guessing what the problem is.

The speedo sensor comes from the abs ring on the left front wheel, and goes thru the ABS/ASR control module, according to the old manual I have. I cant help more than that
