i have a 1996 s280 eurospec... i live in the philippines, quite tropical... hmmm major changes... on the 2nd year i had the car, i had to change the alternator... i bought a rebuilt one off the net for, 350usd i think, and that was 8yrs ago. still works fine. i had to change my a/c compressor 3 or 4 yrs back. was able to source a brand new unit locally, think i spent around 600usd (exchange rate was crazy then) on that one. those were the only major repairs/replacements i have made. the occational power window problem, think i had two modules replaced, spend 150-200us on each one. overall, its a tank. a bit underpowered if you ask me, but it does the job.
