electric rear headrests bang / thump loudly - 96 S500 Coupe W140
96 S500 Coupe W140 with 105K miles. I'm assuming these are the electric ones and not the vacuum ones because they will go up or down based on whether you press the dash switch up or down. There are also individual switches in the center console of the back seat to raise or lower the headrest.
When either headrest is raised or lowered it bangs about 5 or 8 times or so like the motor doesn't know to stop. It's really pretty loud, like someone banging on the car frame with a hammer - no, there's no one in the trunk!
It used to only do it on one of the headrests but now it does it on both - either going up or down.
Any suggestions? The car is pretty flawless otherwise and it would be GREAT to get rid of this defect. THANKS!
