Timing chain or rails and tensioner. S420

I got a quote from an independent shop for a timing chain replacement would cost me $2900.00. I think that is an insane amount to pay. I called the dealer and he stated the chains on thE motor rarely fails and most likely needs the rails and tensioner replaced. What is the typical cost for rails and tensioner replacement? Or if the chain needs replaced how much does that usually cost?

1999 S420 with 150,000 miles.
