Black smoke from the exhaust

Good evening, I owned a Mercedes-Benz S 500 1998 model 119 engine I have a problem car consumes a lot of fuel and black smoke out of the exhaust solution please Thank you all

I would check spark plugs first,and replace if needed.Then depending on mileage,replace oxygen sensors,the forward ones.
If you have acess to a code reader check for any codes first.
