I'd be grateful for any advice (original owner documented mileage). Needs a new front bumper cover, and drivers outside mirror replaced, and possibly that switch. Runs down the road as solid as a rock. . I know a lot about R class but nothing about s320s....

well, engine wiring harness, and throttle wiring can be a problem, when insulation comes off.Head gasket can fail, keep engine cool, don't overheat.airconditioning inside the condesor can fail do to leaks.A can of supersealer will repair it.Rubber parts may fail do to age,and plastic parts.Front end and rear suspension.

Thanks for the maintenance tips

Especially appreciate the "wiring insulation falling off" advice. Upon close inspection with a flashlight i can see inside the mirror housing and one of the many wires is simply bare. I will pop out the glass and re-insulate. (Already ordered an OEM wing mirror for the other side - very $$$spensive as a complete unit, primed for paint). I will check into the cost of an engine wiring harness. A/C so far not an issue (colder climate up north here so not used much). Prior owner did multiple oil changes spring and fall every year (after as little as 2000 kms). Lots of oil coating the bottom of the engine and cross member, never cleaned properly. (Those Midas guys used to do it for him lately). I know we're all tempted to just take it to M.B. and say "Major service please my good man" and accept whatever the invoice cost is (which I'm guessing might be a large percentage of this car's present cost if they start preventative maintenance item replacement). I'm seriously tempted to respray the car a monotone black some day (after seeing that restoration barn video on the S500 on youtube).
