Bose amp (newer) removal
Hi, I have looked through the forum and can't find any reference to my amp (if it has been covered before, I apologise). I have a 1992 600SEL and I had the well described 'popping' and 'crackling' in my speakers. Eventually, the speakers emitted a very high pitched sound and then the system died. I have an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, but everything else is Mercedes stock. That's where my problem lies at the moment. The previous owner seems to have upgraded the amp with Mercedes as my amp (or what I think is my amp) looks nothing like the photos on other threads (See attached).
It is in a bespoke housing with a lockable case. I can't get the amp free to look and see if there is a relatively easy fix (unlikely).
Can someone in the know have a look at the attached photos and let me know how I can get the amp free from the casing?
Failing all of that, an audio guru I know says he can rewire the car and bypass the amp and use the headunit to power the speakers. My worry here is that the sound will suffer as the speakers (12 of them) will not be well handled by a head unit. Besides I hear that the speakers have specific ohmage for the bose amp.
Any advice truly appreciated.
Thanks.
