Excessive brake pedal travel

1997 S500, nearly to the floor but then firm, not spongy, not requiring too much pressure but very long legs

Pressure bled brake system, twice. Pelican's master cylinder replacement (ATE) is the wrong model out of the two types for that model for that year and that chassis. May not be master cylinder. Vacuum booster looks good and sounds good, no hiss.

The ABS stuff seems to be in front of that. Hints, suggestions before I take it apart and make a mess of it?
