Overheating

So my s420 '95 overheates once I slam the throttle to the end. I get good acceleration but no sooner I'm done the temp gauge shoots up to almost critical. Is it normal for it to happen and if not how can I go about rectifying this problem? Thanks.

I would ask myself----self, when was the last time I flushed the coolant---self,did I use the correct coolant, self, when was the last time I changed my thermostat, self when was the last time I had my coolant system pressure tested---then I would go back to bed and hope that when I woke up the car got stolen!!

That is not normal. Like the other poster said, check the coolant. There are procedures for changing the coolant on these cars on youtube or google. I'd start there.
