Pre-OBDII Code Reader for 94 S600

Hello everyone,
I have a 1994 S600 coupe. I have the older CAN 38 pin connector in my engine compartment for analog diagnostic purposes. I do not think I can use an OBDII reader on that port, even if I buy the 38-16 pin connectors I see on eBay and Amazon.

I know there are the simple ~$50 basic code readers out there. I am looking for something more sophisticated and wonder if anyone here can point me to what that is (make, model please) and where to get it?

The problem appears to be that no one really makes what I need anymore. I'm hoping I'm just wrong about that. I see the Star SDS systems that are out there, but they all appear to be for 1996 and later cars. I'm hoping to get something in the three figure range, as this is a pure hobby.

I see these C3 and C4 systems out there and wonder if these will work in a pre-1996 car? Any help is appreciated!

If you do not have an OBD connector, then you are screwed--you either have to have the HHT tester built into every version of DAS Xentry along with the mushroom connector to use the red white and yellow plugs to connect or use the 38 pin connector that comes with every C3 and C4 mux!!

Thanks Plutoe. For clarification, is a mushroom connector the same as the 38 pin connector? Also, of the two possibilities you suggest, am I screwed because of the huge costs?

Of the two options, which do you suggest I use? Does your answer change based on costs?

No!!

The mushroom connector is for the folks that have a HHT tester(hardware). The 38 pin connector is for folks with DAS Xentry which incorporates the HHT.

The HHT for PKW(cars),I have only seen five for sale in the last years in any event I consider that a very bad investment because MB incorporated the HHT into all versions of DAS Xentry up to 09_2015----it sounds like you really have only two options---find a shop that has DAS Xentry or purchase DAS Xentry youself(about 750 bucks)---then take a couple of months learning the system!!
